OLYMPIA, Wash. — A new bill introduced in Washington state’s legislature Wednesday would ban the retail sale of nitrous oxide.
State Sen. Drew Hansen, D-Bainbridge Island, and state Rep. Joe Timmons, D-Bellingham, filed the legislation, SB 6169 and its companion, HB 2532, citing a 2025 study that showed the number of annual deaths connected to nitrous oxide poisoning climbed substantially, with 23 deaths in 2010 to 156 deaths in 2023.
