Man with machete barricades himself inside Seattle church, police say

The man was taken into custody after a standoff that lasted more than an hour.

SEATTLE — Seattle police arrested a barricaded suspect who was reportedly armed with a machete in the University District on Tuesday night. The standoff ended around 7:40 p.m.

The Seattle Police Department responded to University Lutheran Church on Northeast 50th Street just before 4 p.m. 

Police initially went to the scene for reports of a trespass call and the 47-year-old suspect armed himself with a machete when police arrived, the department posted on X.
