A magnitude 6.5 earthquake that struck off the coast of Guerrero, Mexico, on Monday, January 1, 2026, at 7:58 a.m CT has prompted a wave of concern across Hawaii, where Google Trends showed residents immediately began searching for potential tsunami threats.
Despite the earthquake’s strength and its location near the Pacific Ocean, officials have confirmed there is no tsunami danger to Hawaii.
