Katie Wilson sworn in as Seattle mayor, becoming third woman to lead city

Wilson beat incumbent Bruce Harrell in a highly-contested race in November, earning 50.4% of the vote.

SEATTLE — Mayor-elect Katie Wilson became the third woman to lead the Pacific Northwest’s largest city in the New Year. 

Wilson’s win continues Seattle’s unbroken chain of one-term mayors, which started with Mike McGinn back in 2010. It also reflects a broader trend of more progressive politicians being voted into office within the city. 

She replaces incumbent Bruce Harrell, who, after conceding the race in November, acknowledged her sway with young voters likely contributed to her win.
