Red Flag Warning Issued for 23 North Carolina Counties Amid Elevated Fire Risk

A Red Flag Warning is in effect Monday, December 29, from noon to 6 p.m. EST for much of central North Carolina’s Piedmont, where forecasters say a combination of dry air and gusty winds could cause any new fire to spread rapidly.

The National Weather Service office in Raleigh said the warning covers a broad swath of counties across the Triad, Triangle, and neighboring areas, including portions of the central Piedmont and Sandhills.

West winds of 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph are expected during the warning window, along with relative humidity as low as 20%.
