A levee failure has created an unlikely split at a single apartment complex — families opening presents upstairs while those below face total loss.
PACIFIC, Wash. — On Christmas morning at Megan’s Court Apartments, the celebration unfolded in two very different ways.
On the top floor, families gathered to open presents, their apartments dry and largely untouched. Brynne Thompson, a mother of three, recounted the familiar ritual while wearing a Grinch-themed outfit.
“We woke up and started opening up presents from mom and Santa Claus,” she said. “It’s very relaxing today.”
