Thousands without power in Olympia following overnight windstorm

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Heavy winds brought down trees and power lines across Olympia early Thursday morning, leaving thousands without electricity after 40 mph gusts swept through the area. 

Despite extensive property damage, residents expressed relief that no one was seriously injured in the storm.

Carma Anderson had a tree crash through her roof, creating an unexpected skylight above her stairway. 

“It was just a loud boom… about like a bomb,” Anderson said. 

The Olympia resident, who is raising her granddaughter Madison in the home, recalled her immediate panic. “The first thing I yelled was her name. I said, ‘Madison, are you OK?’
