Man with hatchet, drugs arrested in downtown Seattle

Police say King County Jail staff declined to book the suspect due to “medical reasons” and he eventually was released from custody after evaluation at a hospital.

SEATTLE — A man armed with a hatchet and drugs was arrested in downtown Seattle on Tuesday night.

Around 6:20 p.m., officers found a man trespassing in an alleyway behind the Smith Tower on Yesler Way, according to a blotter post.

Police say the alleyway had a large sign declaring it was closed to the public and had a fence blocking the north entrance.
