Community mourns beloved Anacortes teacher killed on his way to work

Edmundo Corrales died in a car wreck as he returned to his classroom after the Thanksgiving weekend.

ANACORTES, Wash. — Students returning from Thanksgiving break learned that beloved Spanish teacher and coach Edmundo Corrales died in a crash while driving to work Monday morning.

The 36-year-old was killed when an oncoming car crossed the center line on U.S. Highway 20. The other driver survived. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected in the crash.

Corrales spent seven years teaching at Anacortes High School, where administrators say his impact on students and staff was immeasurable.
