While Amazon denies violating Seattle’s app-based worker protection laws, the company agreed to pay more than $3 million to settle an investigation by the city.
SEATTLE — Amazon will pay out more than $3 million to 10,000 gig workers over alleged violations of the City of Seattle’s gig worker and app-based worker protection laws.
Seattle’s Office of Labor Standards (OLS) alleged that the company’s Amazon Flex business, which allows employees to contract with the company to deliver packages, groceries and food in their own vehicles, only provided premium pay and paid sick and safe time to some workers but not others.
