December skywatching: Geminid meteor shower to bring up to 120 meteors per hour

The Geminids peak Dec. 13, producing up to 120 meteors per hour visible from 8 p.m. until sunrise. Plus, a recap of discoveries from the James Webb Space Telescope.

December doesn’t just bring the winter solstice, it also brings one of the year’s most impressive meteor showers.  

The Geminid meteor shower peaks Dec. 13, producing up to 120 meteors per hour visible from 8 p.m. until sunrise, said Keith Krumm, a NASA Solar System ambassador and member of the Seattle Astronomical Society. The shower remains active throughout most of December, from the first through the 21st.
