Two months after Hurricane Melissa disrupted travel plans across Jamaica, the Dominican Republic has strategically moved to absorb the region’s displaced winter demand, approving 800 additional commercial and charter flights for the 2025–2026 high season.
The decision, led by the country’s Civil Aviation Board, reinforces the Dominican Republic’s position as the Caribbean’s most agile tourism market. The flights, authorized in late November, will operate gradually over an eight-month schedule, but the most concentrated surge begins in December, running through the critical holiday corridor from Christmas to early January.
