WSDOT has taken the project’s design-build contractor to court, alleging missed deadlines.
BELLEVUE, Wash. — The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) says the long-running Interstate 405/Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes Project will not be complete until summer 2027, pushing the projected completion date nearly two years beyond its original target.
For years, WSDOT said the project could be ready for use as early as the end of 2025, based on the design-builder’s contractual delivery date. In a new update released this week, the agency said it now knows the 2025 timeline “is no longer achievable.”
