The Washington Ferret Rescue and Shelter left Everett after years of safety concerns, but faces financial difficulties due to the cost of relocating.
UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. — When a SWAT team knocked on the door of Washington Ferret Rescue and Shelter in April and ordered an emergency evacuation, Summer Krook knew their time in Everett was over.
Gunfire at the neighboring Farwest Motel put the nonprofit’s volunteers and nearly 200 ferrets at risk. Two people were arrested in connection with the shooting.
“We were responsible for little lives and we had to keep them safe,” said Krook, the shelter’s vice president.
