Justice Mary Yu was the first woman of color and first openly lesbian justice on Washington’s highest bench.
OLYMPIA, Wash. — Washington State Supreme Court Justice Mary Yu said she is ready to retire at the end of the year, but will also miss serving as a judge.
“I love this court. And do I have mixed emotions about leaving something that I love so dearly, I do,” Yu said.
The retirement ends a 25-year career as a judge. She served as a King County Superior Court judge for 14 years. Governor Bob Ferguson will appoint her replacement Monday morning at the Temple of
