Travel group American Automobile Association (AAA) projects that 81.8 million Americans will journey at least 50 miles from home during the holiday period from Tuesday, Nov. 25, through Monday, Dec. 1, 2025 — marking a new record for the Thanksgiving holiday interval.
Of that number, roughly 73 million people—nearly nine in ten travellers—are expected to make the trip by car, representing an increase of about 1.3 million drivers compared with last year.
Air travel is expected to see roughly 6 million domestic flyers, a modest ~2% rise over 2024.
