Harbor Island Studios is one of the few publicly funded production studios in the country — and it may soon close for good due to King County’s budget deficit.
SEATTLE — King County Council approved temporary funding Tuesday to keep Harbor Island Studios operational through June, but the fate of Washington’s largest film production facility remains uncertain as the county grapples with a $150 million budget deficit.
The council must decide by June whether to continue funding the facility or let it close.
