Forks community embraces grieving family after boating accident claims lives of father, son

Authorities say 35-year-old Christian Akers and his 7-year-old son Wyatt died Thursday when their drift boat capsized in the Bogachiel River, southwest of Forks.

FORKS, Wash. — A small coastal community on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula is mourning the loss of a father and his young son who died in a fishing accident near Forks — even as loved ones find comfort in a small sign of hope.

Authorities say 35-year-old Christian Akers and his 7-year-old son Wyatt died Thursday when their drift boat capsized in the Bogachiel River, southwest of Forks. A third adult on board was able to cling to a tree and call 911.
