Race for citywide Seattle City Council seat focuses on housing, crime reduction and local businesses

Ballots have been sent to registered voters. Incumbent Seattle City Councilmember Alexis Mercedes Rinck, a democrat, is facing Republican challenger Rachael Savage.

Election Day is fewer than two weeks away.

One of Seattle’s most notable contests outside of the race for mayor is the battle for a city-wide council seat, Position 8. 

The incumbent, Councilmember Alexis Mercedes Rinck, a Democrat, landed on the ballot after nabbing nearly 80% of the vote in the primaries. Challenger, Republican Rachael Savage, claimed 13%.
