Fred Hutch, UW Medicine halt new foreign worker visa petitions due to $100K fee

Days after President Trump announced the fee, UW, which operates UW and Harborview medical centers, began updating guidance.

SEATTLE — Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and the University of Washington’s medical facilities have put a pause on sponsoring H-1B foreign worker visas after President Donald Trump announced a $100,000 fee last month.

The fee would apply to new H-1B petitions filed after September 21, 2025.

H-1B visas, which require a bachelor’s degree or higher, are meant for high-skilled jobs that companies find difficult to fill.
