BURIEN, Wash. — Before Washington’s newest police recruits ever step onto the streets, they’re stepping into a virtual world.
Inside the state’s Criminal Justice Training Center in Burien, future officers are participating in a first-of-its-kind pilot program that uses virtual reality (VR) to prepare them for real-life encounters.
The initiative, developed by Axon, the same company behind Tasers and police body cameras, aims to supplement traditional academy lectures with immersive, scenario-based learning.
