Puyallup high school cross-country runner hit by driver

The driver was arrested for not having a court-ordered ignition interlock device on his car.

PUYALLUP, Wash. — A Puyallup High School cross-country runner remains hospitalized after being struck by a driver in a pickup truck during team practice Monday afternoon. The incident has shaken a quiet residential neighborhood and sparked calls for immediate safety improvements.

The collision occurred around 4 p.m. at the intersection of 7th Street Northeast and 2nd Avenue Northeast as members of the cross country team were running eastbound during their training run. The teen was hit by a driver traveling southbound through the intersection.
