Seattle tourists face closures as federal shutdown begins

Seattle tourists hit closed doors at Klondike Gold Rush Park as the shutdown begins, but businesses say overall impact on waterfront tourism may be limited.

SEATTLE — Tourists who stopped by the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park in Seattle’s Pioneer Square this week found the doors locked. The downtown museum, one of the nation’s few urban national parks, is normally open on Wednesdays.

No signs explained the closure, but the National Park Service confirmed in its contingency plan that indoor facilities would close during the federal government shutdown. Limited services — such as law enforcement, fire suppression, and sanitation — continue at many park sites,
