Washington state won’t give DOJ full voter data amid privacy concerns

Secretary of State Steve Hobbs said he wouldn’t provide complete voter data, which would include full birthdates and the last four digits of social security numbers.

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Secretary of State Steve Hobbs said Tuesday that Washington will not hand over private voter information to the Department of Justice (DOJ), saying it would violate state law.

In a letter to Harmeet K. Dhillon, assistant attorney general for the Civil Rights Division, Hobbs said Washington would provide selected data, including voter names, addresses, political jurisdictions, genders, birth years, voting records and registration dates and numbers.
