‘Strong guardrails’: Seattle police chief defends CCTV expansion amid federal access concerns

Seattle City Council approved adding CCTV to three areas around the city. The bill now sits on Mayor Bruce Harrell’s desk.

SEATTLE — The Seattle City Council approved adding CCTV cameras in three areas of the city, despite hours of public opposition this week. If approved, the cameras would be placed in the Stadium District, near Garfield High School, and Cal Anderson Park.

Police Chief Shon Barnes says the department has “strong guardrails” to protect surveillance data at the Real-Time Crime Center (RTCC).
