Sound Transit conducts light rail car test over I-90 floating bridge

The route connecting the Eastside and downtown Seattle is expected to open in early 2026, officials say.

SEATTLE — Officials took another step toward eventually connecting much of the Eastside with downtown Seattle on Monday night when they ran a live test of a Link light rail vehicle going over the Interstate 90 floating bridge on Lake Washington.

The live wire testing of a single light rail vehicle was conducted by Sound Transit late Monday night. The vehicle tested the power systems of the two stations that eventually will allow travelers to ride the light rail from Seattle to Redmond through the 2 Line extension.
