Magnitude 2.9 earthquake strikes Mount Vernon overnight

A magnitude 2.9 earthquake hit Skagit County just after 1 a.m., shaking areas from Sedro-Woolley to Oak Harbor.

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — A magnitude 2.9 earthquake struck in Skagit County overnight.

The earthquake hit just east of Interstate 5 at a depth of about 5.62 miles, according to the Puget Sound Seismic Network. It was recorded at 1:01 a.m. Thursday.

The ShakeMap indicates that the earthquake could be felt as far north as Sedro-Woolley and west to Oak Harbor.
