Tacoma council to weigh $600,000 settlement with former officer acquitted in Manuel Ellis’ death

Timothy Rankine claimed city officials made false statements to the public about his involvement in the death of Manuel Ellis.

TACOMA, Wash. — The Tacoma City Council is expected to consider Monday a settlement agreement with a police officer who was acquitted in the death of Manuel Ellis.

Council members are considering a $600,000 payment to former Tacoma police Officer Timothy Rankine and his wife, Katherine Chinn. The council is expected to take up the issue during its meeting at 5 p.m.
