Pierce County Executive Ryan Mello created a 15-member “Juvenile Justice Task Force” to make recommendations for a new juvenile detention center.
TACOMA, Wash. — Each night, roughly 25 kids and teens are housed at Remann Hall, Pierce County’s juvenile detention facility. However, county leaders said the building is outdated and understaffed. They said it is not serving the youth adequately and is unsafe for staff.
“The challenges that are facing Remann Hall are quite well known,” said Pierce County Executive Ryan Mello, who is pushing for a complete overhaul of the facility.
