Seattle eyes more CCTV cameras to fight crime

More cameras proposed for Capitol Hill, area around Garfield High School, and Lumen Field before FIFA World Cup.

SEATTLE — Seattle city leaders are proposing to install more police surveillance cameras across the city near Garfield High School, the Capitol Hill nightlife district, and Stadium District.

Officials say these additions are part of an expanding effort to curb gun violence, combat human trafficking, and support public safety events like the 2026 FIFA World Cup — which is expected to draw 850,000 over the course of three months.

The Seattle City Council’s Public Safety Committee will discuss expansion at its Aug. 12 meeting.
