The new WSP program flags thousands of speeders, fines hundreds.
SEATTLE — Washington State Patrol (WSP) has issued 262 citations so far this year using new speed cameras deployed in highway work zones, the agency announced.
The enforcement effort is part of a partnership between WSP and the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) aimed at reducing crashes in construction areas. Since the program launched in April, WSP has identified 11,567 incidents of drivers speeding through work zones. Of those, 262 drivers received $248 fines.
First-time offenders are currently given warnings, but beginning July 1, 2026, initial citations will carry a $125 fine. Repeat
