Hoodsport volunteers fear tourists will be scared off by Bear Gulch fire

As the Bear Gulch fire prompts evacuations near Lake Cushman, residents in Hoodsport serve breakfast to firefighters and welcome additional volunteers.

HOODSPORT, Wash. — As the Bear Gulch fire continues to burn in Mason County, there’s growing concern about the impact it could have on the area’s critical tourism season.

A Level 3 “Go Now” evacuation order was issued early Wednesday for the area north of Lake Cushman. Hoodsport, located on the other end of the lake along the Hood Canal, remains outside the wildfire’s path, but other smaller fires are burning to the south and east.
