Seattle law firm examines safety at Gas Works Park after teen’s fatal fall

The Ballard High School student fell approximately 50 feet after climbing an industrial structure.

SEATTLE — A Seattle law firm is reviewing safety protocols at Gas Works Park after a 15-year-old Ballard High School student fell 50 feet to his death earlier this month.

Mattheis Johnson was killed following an outdoor pop-up concert at the Seattle park, according to the family’s official GoFundMe page. A Seattle Fire Department spokesperson said Johnson fell from a platform. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where he later died.
