OAK HARBOR, Wash. — After 13 years of craftsmanship and community effort, Valkyrie — a 60-foot, hand-built Viking ship — sailed through Deception Pass on its maiden voyage.
Constructed from cedar and oak, Valkyrie is the only Coast Guard–approved Viking ship in the world. The project began as a promise David Knudsen made to his late father.
