OLYMPIA, Wash. — Volunteers are gathering signatures for a proposed initiative that would require all Washington voters to provide documented proof of U.S. citizenship before casting a ballot.
If Initiative Measure No. IL26-126 qualifies for the ballot and is approved, it would eliminate the current system where voters simply check a box confirming they are U.S. citizens — and, instead, mandate physical documentation such as an enhanced driver’s license or birth certificate.
