A Thurston County judge sentenced Matthew Orr to 8.5 years for causing a deadly crash while fleeing police last November.
TUMWATER, Wash. — A Thurston County judge on Friday sentenced a 30-year-old man to eight and a half years in prison for a high-speed crash that killed a father of two during a police pursuit.
Matthew Orr pleaded guilty in May to first-degree manslaughter for the November crash that killed 33-year-old Dane Nielsen. Orr was fleeing law enforcement at more than 100 mph when he ran a red light and struck Nielsen’s car. Nielsen, a father and musician, was on a short trip to the store.
