LACEY, Wash. — Waste management workers in Washington state joined a multi-state strike against Republic Services, one of the country’s largest sanitation companies, disrupting garbage collection across multiple cities including Seattle, Lynnwood, Bellevue, and Kent.
A demonstration began Wednesday at 6 a.m. at the Thurston County Waste and Recovery Center, with workers protesting what they describe as unfair labor practices. The central issue in the dispute centers on wage disparities between Republic Services workers and their counterparts at other area waste management companies.
