Congresswoman tours Seattle food bank as it braces for increased demand amid SNAP cuts

Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal visited a Seattle food bank Wednesday amid concerns over tightened eligibility for SNAP, formerly known as food stamps.

SEATTLE — As food banks across Washington brace for a possible surge in need, Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., visited the SODO Community Market in Seattle Wednesday to witness firsthand how hunger relief organizations are preparing for the fallout from a controversial new federal spending law.

“My biggest concern is then being able to meet that demand,” said Nicole King, director of Innovative Programs at Northwest Harvest.
