Rare agave plant in full bloom after nearly 20 years at Tacoma zoo

TACOMA, Wash. — After nearly 20 years, a rare agave plant is in full bloom at Tacoma’s Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium

The zoo said a mature Agave parryi var. truncata in the Desert Garden is in full bloom, offering visitors the chance to see a towering flowering stalk. Since early May, the zoo said the stalk has grown to 15 feet in preparation for its full bloom. The agave plant’s full bloom will last two or three weeks, according to the zoo.
