Volunteers try to stop Lewis Army Museum from being shut down

The Lewis Army Museum is one of 29 army museums that could potentially be closed down by 2029.

JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. — Several museum volunteers and elected leaders are pushing to save the Lewis Army Museum at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

The museum has been operating out of the same building for 50 years and in recent years has seen nearly 40,000 visitors annually.

The United States Army Center for Military History (CMH) announced last month that it plans to close 29 army museums. The Friends of the Lewis Army Museum say the Lewis Army Museum is on the list.
