Bellevue school district cracks down on fireworks after playground fires cause major damage

From 2023 to 2024, Bellevue Police saw a 64% increase in fireworks-related disturbance calls during the July 4th holiday period.

BELLEVUE, Wash. — As Independence Day approaches, the Bellevue School District, in collaboration with the Bellevue Fire Department and Bellevue Police Department, is taking proactive steps to try and prevent fireworks-related damage on school property.

Fireworks have been banned in Bellevue since 1994, except for permitted professional displays.

“All fireworks are illegal. So even things as minor as sparklers are illegal in the City of Bellevue,” said Kyle Nelson of the Bellevue Fire Department.
