Preliminary estimates indicate between 1.5 to 2 pounds of explosives caused an explosion and fire on Whidbey Island the night of June 17.
OAK HARBOR, Wash. — Between 1.5 and 2 pounds of explosives caused an explosion and fire at a Whidbey Island home on the night of June 17, according to the Island County Sheriff’s Office.
A 42-year-old man was manufacturing explosives in a shop attached to the home in Oak Harbor when the detonation happened. His body was eventually recovered from the debris.
Two other people, identified as the man’s parents, escaped the home with minor injuries.
