Protest, confusion and panic after ‘unusual’ ICE screening

Hundreds of noncitizens facing deportation were told to check in at their field office in Tukwila, but when they showed up, the office was closed.

TUKWILA, Wash. — Equipped with gas masks and shields, a crowd of protesters gathered outside the Department of Homeland Security’s field office in Tukwila on Father’s Day, bracing for another confrontation with police and ICE.

“We’re prepared,” said one protester who did not give their name. “A lot of people got hurt yesterday.”
