It’s been five years since the Seattle Police Department abandoned its East Precinct in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, following protests sparked by the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
Protesters set up around the precinct in what would eventually be referred to as the Capitol Hill Organized Protest, better known as CHOP.
The protest zone covered six blocks and lasted from approximately June 8 until July 1 of 2020.
Discussions with the protest zone focused on use of force as people called to defund police departments.
