Warm weather arrives in western Washington, bringing safety concerns

Drownings and overheated pets are among the biggest dangers.

REDMOND, Wash. — With temperatures climbing into the 70s, 80s and even 90s, summertime has unofficially arrived in western Washington—bringing both excitement and risk.

The official start of summer is June 20, but warm, sunny days have already drawn people outdoors.

“Absolutely,” said Neil Cureton, who was tending the community garden at Marymoor Park in Redmond. “You get outside and do more stuff. You can hike if you want to, work in the garden if you want to.”
