Budget shortfall hits Brier police hard, forcing officers into long weeks

Voters in the Snohomish County city of Brier have not passed a levy lift in more than three decades. The police department is suffering because of it.

BRIER, Wash. — Brier police officer Keli Otake hit the road for another long shift.

She is working 60-hour weeks with no end in sight.

“Every one of us is already overworked,” said Oktake, a nearly seven-year veteran with the Brier Police Department.
