Tacoma library’s first social worker makes impact with 230 aid cases in 2024

The Tacoma Public Library added a social worker to its staff in early 2024. Since she was hired on, she has assisted hundreds of people with a variety of needs.

TACOMA, Wash. — More and more libraries in Washington and across the country are adding social workers to their staff, and Tacoma is one of the recent cities to add a social worker to its library system.

“I don’t want there to be barriers to get this type of support if you need it,” said Samie Iverson, the Tacoma Public Library social worker.
