Electric scooter ridership reaches all-time high, but so have serious injuries

Harborview Medical Center reports serious injuries increased by 37% in 2024 compared to 2023.

SEATTLE — John Stamstad never liked electric scooters, but now after being struck by one and breaking his hip, he’s convinced they’re not safe.

“I would prefer that they were gone,” Stamstad said. “Lime scooters only benefit Lime.”

On March 30, Stamstad was leaving an apartment building in Downtown Seattle, when he was a man riding a Lime scooter on the sidewalk crashed into him.
