Sheriff: No evidence of a crime after shots fired near Whidbey Island protest

The Island County sheriff found no evidence of a crime after shots were fired near a protest on Whidbey Island on April 19.

FREELAND, Wash. — The Island County sheriff said there was no evidence of a crime when a man fired shots on his property near a protest on Whidbey Island earlier this month.

Island County Sheriff Rick Felici said Wednesday the evidence didn’t support a crime under state law or county code. In unincorporated Island County, people are allowed to shoot on their property with a safe backstop, according to Felici.
