GRANITE FALLS, Wash. — Fifty years after the fall of Saigon, Teresa Flying Eagle Baird is transforming personal tragedy into purpose by helping veterans find peace in the place that healed her: nature.

“The mountain is a great place to heal,” said Baird, who lives beneath towering evergreens at her sanctuary, Healing Hearts, nestled off the Mountain Loop Highway.
